I love the modern take on the geisha style with wearable clothing style

Sunddas - Katy Perry in Vivienne Westwood geisha

Melissa

Hey girlies! I raided the warehouse at work tonight and I have two black dresses, they cost me 16 pound altogether, there not amazing but with a few alterations I think we could make them look really good. Anyway ive kept the reciept so if you guys don't like them then I can return them. I will bring them tomorrow to the meeting so you can have a look. Hopefully that is one thing out of the way though. Jo Kabeya

Hey girls I went in town today and managed to get baby powder for the face so  that's something out of the way

Alicia

Having a go at making the flowers with the quotes on, I got this quote from what Melissa wrote earlier I think it fits best with our ideas.

It doesnt look as good in the photo...but i think loads of them together would look really effective...am going to have a go at different oragami flowers.

I did this a few days ago but i thought showed what was meant by the oragami idea.

Alicia--shoes

Heres the shoes i have that i was talking about today with the wedges, thought they might be the sort were going for, there a size 6.

Imogen-Magazine

We need to think of which magazine we are shooting for!! x
i do think Vogue would be good, although its a pretty common one, if we try to do if for a less unknown magazine we may risk getting something wrong x

Imogen

That idea is really good! Also the dress idea is really nice, and i think the origami idea would look really effective and unique! i have been practicing making butterflies and they look really good when there done! i like the idea for petals and feathers too, i have some feathers at home if we need them, i also think two models is a good idea.

my ideas:
We could have the models nails to match her red lips.
With the bondage idea we could make the makeup really dramatic.
the projection could be a blossom tree brand covering her face and we could use shadows like louise said.

anyway il be at the meeting tomorrow after 1pm as i have an interview at 1.

Melissa - Update on Todays meeting 30/11/11

Hey girlys, I know not all of you could make it today so heres and update on what we discussed.
Myself, Alicia, Paige and Jo have tried to finalise an idea that way we have something solid to work with/ develop.
So if you check out some early posts you will noticed I suggested the bondage type theme, we then took that idea and added aspects that we all felt were important so Jo wanted to use petals for the eyes (we bought some petals and paige is going to paint them gold) and colourful makeup to try and draw away from the black of the dress, and paige wants to use feathers for the eyes too. Also Alicia suggested using a dress which is short at the front and then long at the back, she also suggested using material to make the back of the dress even longer so it drapes along the floor and then we can add Origami flowers etc to the back. We all agreed we like that idea and think it could look really effective. Also if you have seen the image i have posted of the two models tied with rope we thought that idea would also look good (we have bought some gold chain to do this for the shoot).
We discussed models and we think it would be good to use two models, and putting them both in dresses, we thought it would work quite well to buy two black dresses then bleech one of the  dresses so it would be white (obviously it isnt going to be a pure white but it will be lighter and the texture will look really good, and texture is something that Paige suggested as she thinks a contrast will look really good in the final images).

This picture is an example of the sort of dress we mean.

We also discussed the jewellery as we think this will be quite important (especially for head shots)
We havent finalised what jewellery we are going to use so does anyone have any suggestions for that?
Paige said she has a ring and some earrings which will look good but everyone bring anything they think would work too as we can try lots out as it doesn't take a second to change.

We also like the idea of using a drawing for the backdrop (check out my previous posts), the drawing will be projected onto the wall and the model that way we get more texture and mood from the shot. Myself and Alicia said we would do some ink drawings and possibly watercolour to try out for the backdrop but everyone else should maybe have a go (if drawing/painting isnt your strong point then just give me suggestions for what you think would look good and i will try draw it up for you)

We discussed shoes and we agreed on using wedges as we felt these best represented the shoes a Geisha would wear. Alicia also mentioned wearing them with sock which a few of us agreed on (I know it will probably be a mixed response in terms of ankle socks with heels but it is something that all the Geishas in the film did and it is also a trend that has been around lately)

Burberry Prorsum - Spring 2008

We discussed the colour scheme and think black, white, gold and red are the colours we want to use (red and gold are the main colours which run through out the film, and the black and white make the shoot more edgy and fit in with the bondage idea).

Paige suggested that on the day of the shoot we spend the first part of the shoot trialing out props, for example smoke to see how they looked in the pictures and then for the second part forcus on getting our final 5 images. I think this is a good idea especially because we haven't got time to now do a test shoot.

I think we need to do a test run in terms of hair and makeup that way we know exactly how we want it on the day of the shoot...

I think i have pretty much covered everything we talked about, Girls who were at the meeting add anything else if i havent mentioned it.

Hope everyone is okay with the idea - feel free to give any input on what you think will/won't work or anything you want to add.
We just needed an idea to work with and i know from talking to you in class yesterday that we were all pretty much on the same page.

Imogen

Sunddas - WGSN trend research

Melissa

I was also thinking, in terms of footwear we should get wedges? because the traditional geisha shoe is a wedged sandal. So wedges would fit quite well. x

Melissa

I have just created two examples on photoshop of the idea I am thinking of, the images aren't great but it should be able to help you visualise what I have been talking about.x

Melissa

"Geisha needs an elegant wardrobe, just like an artist needs ink. If she is not properly dressed, then she is not a true geisha."

This quote got me thinking, how about for the backdrop rather than projecting a photograph we project an image drawn in ink?
I think it would look really effective.

Melissa

Hey Guys. Here i have posted some images to visualise the bondage idea. In the film there is a quote;
"We do not become Geisha to pursue our own destines. We become Geisha because we have no other choice." and i thought bondage or the idea of being restrained would represent this well but at the same time it sort of contradicts the message of purity which is portrayed in the film which is quite a good contrast.
Obviously these images arent of Geisha's but im sure you will get the idea.. I particularly like this first image as it shows them being retrained, this could work well for our shoot- but instead of using rope maybe use ribbons or a silk material?

Jo Kabeya

We talked about having the traditional make up look and the jet black hair but I thought this would look good because it still has the geisha look to it however there's just a bit more colour on the eyes

I love the stuff she has on her hair and the make up

Jo Kabeya

I really like this effect and colour of the photo, I don't know what you guys think though.

This is a way we could do the make up however instead use cherry blossom petals or just light pink flower petals

Jo Kabeya

Hey guys these are some of the pictures I took in college but it's the idea of what louise was talking about with the trees or branches on the models face etc

IMOGEN
